Description
Here's a rare package of TOTL vintage hifi from Kenwood’s storied Supreme line, designed by Jiro Kasuga, who also created Accuphase. The Model 500 integrated amplifier is a series variant that has the same build and circuit design as the Model 600 but with a rated output of 100W — 100% FET preamp, dual mono construction, and a well-designed power amp with a FET differential input stage. You can read about the Kenwood Model 500/600 and 600T in online audio forums and "thevintageknob." I love the sound of this thing, which is easily the closest I've come to tube sound from solid state. (I'm selling because I want to buy a new record player.)
I paid a tech to partially restore the amp: he rebuilt the power supply board, upgraded the power supply transistors, and recapped each amp channel and replaced the bias adjust trimpots for optimal adjustment to spec. The amp has the original Sanken output transistors, which are certified in spec. They were removed, cleaned, and reinstalled with new insulation. The main filter caps were found to have very low ESR and are operating in spec. All switches were cleaned.
The 600T ranks among the highest rated and most coveted of TOTL vintage tuners. 8-gang variable capacitor, rock-solid power supply, smooth, effortless controls, and crystal clear sound. Includes the original manual as pictured.
Both units are in excellent cosmetic condition for their age, particularly the tuner. The Model 500 has some incidental hairlines on the left side. This pairing looks (and sounds) awesome in person.
